Merriam School Procedures - Overview

Revised Dec. 16, 2003.

Overview of Roles and Responsibilities

Procedures affecting the overall operation, curriculum, procedures, and goals of the school are determined, evaluated and revised by the School Council so as to ensure:

  • compatibility and inter-relatedness with the school's philosophy and Core Values (see the Core Values page),
  • coherence with the system-wide policies and objectives, and
  • commitment to laws, regulations, and contractual agreements.

More specific information about roles and responsibilities within the school may be found on the Leadership and Decision Making page.

Concerning Behavioral Expectations

The school expects all students to act in accordance with the Merriam School Core Values, as appropriate for their individual age and experience:

  • All members of the Merriam School community will demonstrate respect for themselves and others.
  • All members of the Merriam School community will be able to take thoughtful and appropriate risks and accept responsibility for the risks they take.
  • All members of the Merriam School community will demonstrate initiative and persistence in learning.

The school expects all adults in the Merriam Community to model the Core Values in their own behavior and interactions within the school. Everyone in the school community is expected to support and remind children of their responsibility to uphold the Merriam School Core Values. The Core Value work provides the behavioral framework and expectations for everyone at Merriam School. Members of the school community are now working to help children understand and establish these core values within their daily interactions.
